Silk Screen Project

My latest project has been a silk screen project in the style of Andy Warhol. Our assignment was to choose an image that would provoke a reaction from the viewer about a theme in our society today. I chose the image of the dollar bill to represent our infatuation with wealth and money. After completing many screen prints I composed them in this arrangement to create a feeling of being overwhelmed by the idea of wealth and money. I chose this composition because it makes the viewer feel how society makes people feel about the idea of money. People today seem so intently focused on wealth and monetary matters that they loose sight of what really matters. I hope my work desensitizes the viewer to the bombarding idea of the economy and monetary matters.

  1. I like this because you used complimentary colors and the way you put it together makes for a good composition. Also the reflection/mirror image thing is cool. It definitely illustrates consumerism and fits the (un)conventional definition of a portrait.

  2. I really like your idea of using the dollar bill. I think it reflects consumerism really well and I like how the dollar bills overlap each other and some run off the page.

  3. I like the design and how you repeated the dollar bill creatively

  4. I Love yours mary! I think your choice of color was very "wise" and you show "mastery in your craft." I think money is a very original yet widely affective idea and you did a good job planning... You are the epitome of life.

  5. Mary- Nice work on this project. The intellectual concept to show money as the ultimate relfection of consumerism is very strong and the mirror image of the money itself creates an even stronger image of the vanity of money. Your overall structure to the composition is effective as is your color choices. My one criticism is that I would still like to see more contrast with this project. But, overall, I think it is a successful piece and I am pleased with your work on the assignment!
