Piece #8
For this piece my object was to portray the way the media's coverage of celebrities encourages its viewers to assimilate and imitate the celebrities they see on TV and in magazines. I used the juxtaposition of celebrity portraits with the zoomed in drawing of lips to show the way viewers try to imitate what they see in their favorite celebrities and figures. I used the repetition structure to show the way the media inundates its audience with images and constant messages. I showed the progression of the lips in order to show how certain qualities are emphasized and the way this tells the audience that they need to possess certain features in order to be beautiful or successful. I left the lips in black and white and the images in color to show that celebrities are seen as glamorous while the everyday person is seen as mundane and unimportant.

I love the close up of the lips and how each frame emphasises them. you could have put the lips in color or had braces on them just to add that extra element. overall i like it.
ReplyDeleteWow, I am really, really impressed with your finished concentration piece. It was fun to watch it evolve as you worked on it in class, and the final product is really engaging. The zooming motion on the lips is my favorite element to this piece- it really works with the composition. You did an excellent job with the drawing of the closest pair of lips. You have really improved this year and I love your concentration!
ReplyDeleteThis is my favortie peice you have done so far. It is creative, a good use of an organized structure, and a perfect blend of mixed media. Nice...
ReplyDeleteThe lips are almost grotesque in nature as they get closer and this is very intriguing! I would go back and emphasize greater mark-making in your work by developing a stronger contrast in values.
