Piece #7

Moving along to my seventh concentration piece I wanted to move from showcasing specific outlets of the media to showing more of the influence of the media. I chose the composition of this piece to show how the media breaks apart the thoughts and actions of the adolescents who are the audience of all the media's messages. I wanted the portrait to be divided by images of television and celebrities to show how these messages interrupt the natural thoughts and individuality of adolescents. I am happy with this piece because I think the drawing is engaging as well as the design structure and color scheme incorporated into it. I am also happy that this piece takes my concentration is a different direction and is beginning to develop it more.

  1. This is by far my favorite of your concentration pieces. It has a really interesting composition and I like the intensity of the "media wave" that is splitting the portrait. The colors and hectic words and images make it clear the the media is a distraction and a detriment to youth in our society. This is really cool Mary, the only suggestion I would have would be to add more value and shading to the portrait to make it even more interesting to look at. And would you want to do something in the background of the portrait (possibly shading) in the white spaces?
    Overall, great job :)

  2. Mary,
I think this concentrtion piece is your best because I can definitely tell that you are getting better as an artist. Your drawings of people have gotten so much better and your ideas of media affecting teenagers still works pretty well. I like the face on the bottom and the newspapers in the middle that are colored. Great job!

  3. Much improved! I agree with Kristen to go ahead and develop your value more. However, I am pleased with the overall concept behind this piece and your vision and personal voice are starting to emerge. The design structure you have incorporated (concentration) helps to make the work more interesting.
